Q1. What sort of test is the JLPT?
A1. The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test is developed for Japanese learners all over the world in order to evaluate and certify their Japanese-language proficiency.

Q2. Are there any special qualifications needed to take the JLPT?
A2. The JLPT is open to all non-native Japanese speakers. There are no age restrictions on candidates taking the JLPT.

A3. If you would like to take it in Japan, please refer to the "Japan Educational Exchange and Services" website for details.
If you would like to take it outside of Japan, please contact the host institution in the country in which you are going to take the test. See the list of host institutions.

A4. The JLPT has four different levels of difficulty. Please refer to the contents, criteria, and past papers of the JLPT.

‘ About the JLPT
Q6. What score do I need to obtain in order to pass the JLPT?
A6. A decision of pass or fail will be given only to those examinees who took all three sections of the test. The passing score is determined by The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Administrative Committee every year, and is usually set at 70% or higher for Level 1, and 60% for Level 2, 3 and 4. In some instances, it may be adjusted downward.

Q1. When can I receive the test results?
A1. As for the test conducted in July, the results will be delivered in mid-Septermber.  As for the test conducted in December, the results will be delivered around the beginning of March. If your test results have not been delivered by the end of the respective month, please contact the host institution where you took the test.

A2. The JLPT test results are delivered by mail to each examinee through the local host institution .

A3. No, you cannot. We cannot respond to any inquiries regarding the test results via telephone or e-mail for any reason.
